How To Choose Your CBD

There has been a bit of chaos when it comes to the availability of CBD products. There are so many to choose from.

Quality is obviously an important factor. But it’s also important to know the difference between Full Spectrum CBD, Isolate CBD, and Smart Spectrum™ CBD.

FULL SPECTRUM CBD

The cannabis plant contains a few different types of beneficial compounds:

  • Cannabinoids. There are more than 100 cannabinoids, including CBD and THC, which are responsible for the therapeutic and psychoactive effects of cannabis products.
  • Terpenes. The more than 150 terpenes in cannabis affect the plant’s fragrance, and terpenes are believed to have many positive effects on the body. These properties can act independently as well as in addition to what cannabinoids offer. Overall, terpenes contribute to the medicinal properties of cannabis, a phenomenon known as the “Entourage Effect.” Think of a team of players vs. a single player; the team is the entourage effect of terpenes + Cannabinoids.
  • Flavonoids. Cannabis includes about 20 different flavonoids. Flavonoids are found in all kinds of plants, including fruits, vegetables, grains, and more. Like terpenes, they have therapeutic effects.

Full-spectrum CBD includes small amounts of all of these compounds, including THC, although no more than 0.3%. So while you won’t get the psychogenic effects of straight THC (marijuana), there is still the possibility of exposure to THC.

It is also important to note that hemp is a phytoremediator by nature (phytoremediation is nature’s way of using living plants to clean the soil and groundwater) that absorbs chemicals and toxins from the soil. Traces of heavy metals absorbed from the soil may be left behind in a full spectrum product.

However, a lot of people gravitate toward full spectrum CBD because it still contains terpenes and flavonoids, thus it delivers a powerful Entourage Effect.

CBD ISOLATE

The other way to produce CBD is in its isolated form as pure CBD. While it has no THC, no heavy metals or other compounds, it also has no terpenes or  flavonoids, and therefore loses the Entourage Effect.

SMART SPECTRUM™ CBD

Remember what else contains terpenes? Yes, essential oils! Added to the CBD Isolate, they create a synergistic effect and thereby increase the benefits of CBD, conveying an Entourage Effect without the unwanted THC and heavy metals. Nature’s Ultra has combined organic CBD Isolate and terpenes to create an amazing line of Smart Spectrum™ CBD products.
